4 Ways To Make It Through A Summer Move

Posted on: 31 July 2015

Summer is a very popular time for people to move, especially those with children. Moving during summertime allows people with children to avoid uprooting them in the middle of the school year. Still, moving during the summer can be exhausting, with sweltering temperatures and sun exposure. Before you embark on a summer move, then, there are some tips you'll want to keep in mind that'll help things go as smoothly as possible.

Consider a Hydration Pack

You might think that hydration packs are only for hikers and runners, but they come just as much in handy during a summertime move. After all, when you're lifting boxes and furniture all day, it's hard to find time to go grab a drink of water. A hydration pack allows you hands-free access to water any time you need it, keeping you hydrated even on the hottest of days.

Don't Forget the Sunscreen

One big mistake many people make when moving during the summer is that of forgetting to wear sunscreen or assuming they won't need it because they won't be outside all day. In reality, you'll probably be spending a fair amount of time outside during your move, so be sure to wear some sunscreen--even if it's an overcast day.

Plan Your Loading/Unloading

In hot temperatures, you may also need to strategically plan out what you load and unload first during the move. For example, some items (such as candles) may need to be packed last and unloaded first so as to prevent them from melting during transport. Be sure to plan your loading and unloading accordingly based on the weather forecast on the day of your move.

Run Fans and Air Conditioning

Finally, while it might seem like common sense to have the air conditioning running in your existing home as you load up, many people forget that they'll also be spending a lot of time unloading at the new place. If possible, then, consider heading over to the new place on the day of the move to turn on the AC and run some fans. This way, it won't be sweltering when you arrive.

Moving during the summertime can be a little more stressful than moving at other times of the year. However, by keeping these tips in mind and hiring a reputable moving company to assist you, you can make the process go much more smoothly for all involved with your move.
