Learn How To Quicklyl Prepare Your Piano For A Move

Posted on: 9 April 2015

If you moved and have a piano that you need to move, it is important to hire professional movers to move it for you. There are many people who do not realize that pianos can weigh hundreds of pounds and moving them on your own could lead to you damaging the piano. The following guide will help you learn how to have a piano moved safely.

Secure the Lids

There will be a lid on the top of the piano and one that slides over the keys. You want to be sure that you secure the two lids so that they do not open during the move. There are some pianos that have small locks built into them to keep the lids closed. If your piano does not have a lock, you can simply use painter's tape to secure the lids. You want to use painter's tape because it will not damage the surface of the piano.

Protect the Piano

During the move, the piano could hit a door jamb or bump the entry of the moving truck. Comforters can serve as inexpensive padding when moving a piano. Wrap a single comforter around the piece and secure it will masking tape. Painter's tape will not stick to the fabric well, but masking tape will. Add another comforter on top of the first comforter and secure it in the same manner. You want to secure the comforters individually to ensure that even if one moves during the move, the other one will still be in place.

Create a Straight Path

When the movers bring the piano to your home, they will bring it inside and position it wherever you want it to be situated. You need to create a path by moving items and furniture out of the way so they can get the piano where it needs to go with as little hassle as possible. It will be a few feet wide, so be sure that the path is large enough for the movers to move through easily.

Taking the time to prepare the piano for the move will make the process go much more quickly. The movers can arrive at the residence and get the piano in the truck quickly and easily. You will be paying the movers per hour, so you want to be sure that you do whatever you can to make the move happen in a timely manner so you do not have to pay any more than absolutely necessary.
