Sometimes, it's the little things that make a move difficult. You can plan ahead, and reduce many of the common frustrations of moving, but sometimes, you just need to get creative to solve some of the hurdles that come your way. Here are a few great ideas for simplifying your move and overcoming some of the smaller struggles that can become big frustrations.

Packing Your Closet Quickly and Easily

When it comes to packing up the clothes in your closet, think simple. Don't even bother taking them off the hangers. Instead, Cut a hole in the center of the bottom of a garbage bag so that you can put the hanger hooks through it. Then, cover your still-hanging clothes with heavy garbage bags to protect them.

Keep the hangers together by wrapping a rubber band around the hooks. This will hold them so that you don't have one hanger slipping out when you move the clothes to the car or the moving truck. By packing your clothes this way, you can just pull off the bag and the rubber band and hang them right up in your new closet. How's that for saving time?

Keeping that Silverware Organizer Organized

Once all of your silverware is clean and in the organizer, cover the whole organizer in several layers of plastic wrap. The plastic wrap will stick to itself, staying in place. It creates a compact, sealed package that will keep all of your utensils in one place. Just pack the whole organizer in a box.

Protecting Plates the Easy Way

With so much news readily available online, chances are that you don't have print newspapers lying around. Besides, who wants to have to wash ink residue off all the dishes after moving into a new place? Custom dish packing foam can be expensive, but the foam insulator is a great way to keep your dishes from breaking during packing.

To get the same benefit at a fraction of the price, buy a large package of foam plates. Put a foam plate under and over each dish when you pack them to build an insulating layer. Then, save the leftover ones to give yourself something you can eat off of after you've packed up the rest of the kitchen.

Identifying Boxes Without the Labeling Hassle

Labeling each box by hand with a marker is a time-consuming process. It's also a hassle having to find and read the label when you're unloading the truck to make sure things go in the right place. And if you move two boxes at once, you might not be able to see the label on the bottom box.

Make identification quick, easy and much less time consuming by color-coding the tape on your boxes. Use a different color of packing tape for each room of the house, and overlap the tape along the sides of the box so that it's easy to see. That way, you know where to put each box at a glance.

Preventing the Repeated Lock-out Problem

Few things are as frustrating as having the door repeatedly close behind you when you're trying to move things in and out of the house. If the door is one of those automatic-locking ones, that's even worse. Luckily, there's an easy way to keep that door latch from locking in place if the door slips and closes.

Wrap a rubber band around the door knob on the inside of the door. Then, turn the knob so that the latch is inside, creating a flat surface on the inside edge of the door. Twist the rubber band to make an "X" shape in the middle, then pull it across that latch and wrap it around the outside doorknob to make it tight. The "X" holds the latch in, letting you push the door open easily to get through it without having to worry about it latching on you.
