Own Or Starting A Moving Business? A Few Reasons To Keep Heavy Duty Plastic Storage Containers On Hand

Posted on: 31 March 2015

If you have a moving company, you know to keep tape, cardboard boxes and moving dollies on hand. It is also a good idea to have an assortment of heavy duty, plastic storage containers too. There are times when cardboard is not going to be the best option, especially if it is going to be going into a storage unit for any length of time. Here are some situations when you should offer your customers the option of using cardboard or plastic containers.

Paper and Photos

No matter where you are moving things to, unless the boxes are going to be unpacked right away, there is a chance of water damage. A cardboard box will not protect the contents from this. Your customers could lose valuable documents or other paper belongings unless they are put in a plastic storage container.

Pack More Items in Each Box

You can have plastic storage containers that have wheels on the bottom. This means you can fill larger boxes with more, heavier items and still be able to move them without the need for a dolly. While this may not be necessary during the actual move when you have dollies available, your customers may need to move the boxes around once you are gone.

Sharp Items

Sharp kitchen knives, scissors, and other sharp items can poke through a cardboard box and cut someone. Use low-profile heavy duty, plastic containers to ensure someone does not go to pick up the box and get hurt. This can occur during the move, or afterwards in the storage unit.

Keeping Food Items Cold

Trying to keep items from the refrigerator or freezer cold can be difficult. Insulated plastic containers give you time to pack the food items, move them to the new location and then not have to rush to get them into the refrigerator again. Of course, they can also be used to keep ice and some drinks available for everyone during the whole process.

Having something special to offer potential customers, like heavy duty plastic storage containers, gives you an edge over the competition. Of course, if the containers will be staying with the customers, you can add the cost to the bill. If they later bring the containers back, refund a portion of the cost. The customers will be pleased with the way you handled things and recommend you to friends who need a moving company. Word-of-mouth is a great way to increase your customer base and make more money.
